You, Me & Anxiety
Project type:
Mental health community
Role:
Founder & manager
Location:
Remote
The Challenge
Why: I wanted to challenge the stigma around mental health by creating a supportive platform. I was frustrated by forums full of 'horror' stories and aimed to build a community that shared honest, humorous, and hopeful perspectives on personal mental health experiences.

What: the concept began simply: I wrote blogs about my own anxious experiences. To make them relatable, I focused on humour and honesty, concluding each with a "What I learnt from this experience" section to offer practical advice.

Who: what started as a personal project evolved into a global community, with people from around the world sharing their stories and reminding others they’re not alone in their struggles.

The Strategy
Hiring and managing writers: realising this was a project others were keen to write for, I began recruiting writers to share their own experience. I would then train them through our blog guidelines, offer support on topics and edit their work.

Building a social community: social media was a key component in growing this project. By focusing on authentic engagement and community building, I grew You, Me & Anxiety to over 7,000 followers organically across major platforms.

Turning to audio: following the success of the blogs and social media, I expanded the project into podcasting to reach a wider audience. Funded by merchandise sales, I launched the You, Me & Anxiety podcast, taking on the roles of host, editor and producer.
The Outcome
-
Built a trusted community: grew an engaged social media following of over 7,000 through organic content, fostering a supportive and stigma-free online space.
